Bright Future: A New Musical
Director

Bright Future: A New Musical: Welcome
When I was a sophomore, I found myself presented with the incredible opportunity to direct a musical with Acting For a Cause. When I was offered the position, the show did not yet have a name, nor was it completely finished. However for five months, I worked on this show, and on March 19th, 2016, Bright Future had its opening night at Madison Street Theatre.
Throughout the process, while I encountered many difficulties, I learned a lot about myself, directing, and theatre in general. As there were no adults involved, I ended up being, in addition to the director, the adviser and adult figure. Being in charge of people my same age, and some a year or two older than me, was extremely difficult at first, but I was able to find the happy medium between being their friend and gaining their trust and being their director. With eight people in the cast of Bright Future, along with six production staff members, I now feel comfortable directing my peers in any situation.
Additionally, without a technical director I ended up playing that role as well. I learned a lot about tech aspects of show, and have gained a lot respect for the ways in which the set and lighting designs create the overall aesthetic of a show.
